A neutral plate system has 50 or more plates between the anode and cathode. Each cell requires 1.23V + 0.8V overhead = ~2V. With 50 plates that requires ~101.5V — far beyond a vehicle's 12V battery. The electrical energy consumed heats the water instead of producing hydrogen. These units make steam, not hydrogen. They cannot be patented because they don't work. If you want steam, buy a kettle — it's cheaper.
Pure distilled water is ideal. Tap water, rain water or ground water can be used but risks oxidising electrodes due to fluorine, chlorine or other contaminants. In Perth, Gavan is comfortable using rainwater. For maximum efficiency and electrode life, use the HFS resin filter system which produces laboratory-grade water at 52ppm from tap water (800ppm). The filter capsule produces 50,000 litres and lasts 5,000 hours.
Savings depend on your engine, driving conditions and how the system is tuned. Independent certified results: 36–42% savings on petrol vehicles in city traffic (Saarthi, 2023); 31–32% on a 27-tonne 7.2L diesel truck (Kitech K40, 2023). Several clients report 42–51% on open roads. City driving typically yields lower savings than highway driving.
Gen 10: up to 4.5L engines, 3.2–3.6 LPM, compact enclosure. Gen 15: up to 10L engines, 3.2–4.0 LPM, DeWalt Toughbox. Gen 20: up to 16L, 4.2 LPM, 33-plate cells, laser welded — ideal for large trucks and generators. Gen 25: 20L+ engines, 16,200cm² electrode area (250% larger than Gen 20), for mining, trawlers and the heaviest applications.
Yes — in fact diesel engines respond exceptionally well. HHO gas is injected into the air intake alongside the diesel, forcing more complete combustion. All Gen series systems are certified on diesel vehicles. Specific fuel savings data is currently only certified for diesel; petrol savings are also proven but less formally quantified.
Minimal modification. The system mounts externally and feeds into the air intake. Installation requires a qualified automotive electrician. For trucks with air compressors: the compressor air intake MUST be reconfigured — see the installation warning on the installers page. It is not a DIY installation.
First service after 3 months of use, then every 6 months. Servicing involves checking the electrolyte level and quality, inspecting electrical connections, and cleaning the cells if needed. The resin filter capsule has a 5,000-hour life (approximately 1–2 years depending on use).
Yes. Two or more units can be connected in parallel to scale output for larger engines. Twin Gen 20 configurations are used on 16L+ trucks. For very large engines (20L+), the Gen 25 is recommended as a single unit.
The Gen 10, 15 and 20 systems are 12V only. For 24V vehicles, use a Redarc 24V/12V step-down converter to provide 12V to the hydrogen system. Contact Gavan for specific recommendations.
12 months from date of purchase for defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Warranty is void if the unit is opened, altered or damaged. PWM power units and pumps are fully tested before delivery — they can only be damaged by excessive current (electrolyte too strong) or incorrect polarity, which are not covered. See the warranty page for full terms.
